Endless Devotion
A downloadable game for Windows
About this game
This game is made for AmalgamAsh's The Smile Game Builder Summer 2023 Game Jam.
Niall, Charlotte's fiancée, has been poisoned after eating a cupcake. It's up to Liam and Jake to find out who made it and why. Nothing is as it seems and no-one is truly innocent.
You should be able to beat this game in 10 to 15 minutes.
Behind the scenes
This game is a prototype and I will return to continue working on this game/story in the future, but probably in another game engine. I am beyond happy with what the city navigation looks like, many of the character portraits, my current understanding of SGB's switches and variables, and with the 'search the room' mechanics.
I wrote a 15.000 word script for this game, only to realise Smile Game Builder probably isn't the best engine suited for a game like this because it doesn't have an 'auto'-function. Manually pressing keys for another line of text got very cumbersome after a while so I therefore last minute decided to opt for a condensed version of the story.
Because I wrote the original script in the style of a romance novel, the last act and some scenes may seem a little bit out of place. To compensate for not having an outrageous mystery to solve I wanted to give the characters flamboyant personalities and a relatively unremarkable crime to solve.

I really enjoyed this game, and it surprised me! I hope more people get to enjoy it. I really hope to check out your other games as well! Awesome work!
Thank you for playing my game and for your kind words. I was pleasantly surprised that someone found my game and played it!
I enjoyed watching your video and hearing your reactions. I thought I had gotten rid of all the small errors, like the one where you see the wrong character portrait, so I’ll fix that soon. My games are rough, but if you liked this one, you might like my very first game as well: The Miserable Clown.
I would love to play all your other games. I look forward to it! Thank you for watching!
